Mercedes-Benz’s new SL weighs around 140 kilograms less than its predecessor thanks to a highly ridgid aluminium bodyshell.
The new SL is produced almost entirely from aluminium.
According to a story in Collision Week the make up of the bodyshell is: 44 percent cast aluminum, 17 percent aluminum sections, 28 percent aluminum sheet metal, 8 percent steel and 3 percent other materials.
